About Denning
Because of Denning’s location inside Catskill Park, people are drawn to the heavily wooded hamlets of Claryville, Sundown and Peekamoose.
There is a new Red Hill Fire Tower trail and parking lot in the Catskill Forest Preserve. The newly constructed lot, trail and informational kiosk are located in Ulster County on Denning Road in the Town of Denning and will improve access to the scenic Red Hill Fire Tower and other features at DEC's Sundown Wild Forest. The 60-foot fire tower was constructed in 1921 and offers views of the Catskill High Peaks and the Rondout Reservoir. There is a moderate, 3-mile round-trip hike to the summit of the 2,990-foot peak. Cab at top of tower is open weekends and holidays, June-Columbus Day. Accessible year-round.
Posh hotels, retro-inspired inns, tricked-out cabins and cozy B&Bs are just some of the lodging options.
