The series begins with the stars that perhaps had the largest imprint on 20th century culture, The Beatles. Released at the height of Beatlemania, the film endures thanks to the brilliant comic performances of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, as well as a slew of pop anthems, including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell.” The raucous, anything-goes attitude of director Richard Lester, and the film’s clever Oscar-nominated screenplay prove to be a perfect match for The Beatles’ musical and comedic skills. A Hard Day’s Night reconceived the movie musical and proves to be one of the most entertaining films ever made.
