SUMMARY:Ars Choralis Presents "Mozart at Maverick"
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning chorus Ars Choralis\, known for its innovative programming and led by Artistic Director Barbara Pickhardt\, is pleased to announce its next concert – Mozart at Maverick – continuing our celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. \nPresented on June 20 at 7pm and June 21 at 4pm\, at Maverick Concert Hall\, Woodstock\, NY\, the program features the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91)\, alongside Edson Hymns and Fuguing Tunes. This suite of postcolonial American hymns by composers Lewis Edson (1748-1820) and his son Lewis Edson Jr. (1771-1845)\, contemporaries of Mozart\, was orchestrated by Henry Cowell (1897-1965). At the time\, Cowell was living in Shady\, New York\, outside Woodstock\, where the father-and-son composers had also settled in the early 19th century. Rounding out the program is An Anthem for Thanksgiving by William Billings (1746-1800)\, considered the first American choral composer. Juxtaposing the Requiem\, one of the greatest European choral compositions\, with traditional American songs written in the same era contrasts the courtly European style with American music of the colonists. \nJoining Ars Choralis will be soloists Lauren Nash Silberstein\, Maria Bedo-Calhoun\, Harvey Boyer and Andrew Burger\, along with a chamber orchestra. \nTicket prices are $35 at the door\, $30 in advance\, and $10 for students.
