SUMMARY:Paper Dolls: A Midnight Ballet in the Hudson Valley
DESCRIPTION:Paper Dolls is an immersive night of performance art and collective action to pass a law ending sexual abuse at the hands of law enforcement in the state of New York. For one night\, on September 18th\, we come together to write letters to our New York representatives while enjoying a stacked lineup of entertainment. Feast your eyes and ears as Gentle Mothh performs her debut album Paper Thin\, dancers move across the stage and room in acts ranging from burlesque to drag to pole\, performed by members of the sex worker community and their allies. Illuminate your mind as attorney Rebecca Cleary\, JD\, of A.S.H. Coalition\, a leading expert on police sexual misconduct policy\, briefs us on the law we are fighting for. Then let yourself relax and unwind at the midnight ballet\, sensual performances by a cast composed entirely of current and former adult industry workers. There will be prizes\, bisexual beverages\, and treats galore. The theme is “Paper Dolls” and the dress code is high femme and hardware – it’s giving – chomping at the My-Little-Pony-bit – whatever that means to you. \nThe issue: current policy in New York allows law enforcement to have sexual contact with people under investigation. This loophole has led to city and county funded\, systemic exploitation of workers in the adult industry\, as police carry out undercover sting operations: posing as clients\, extracting services\, and then arresting providers. This is not a rare situation caused by a few bad actors. After excessive use of force\, police sexual misconduct is the second most reported form of police misconduct across the country. Join us in making New York a safer and sexier place.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Iain Machell - SECOND NATURE
DESCRIPTION:All my work begins with observation from nature. I want to know what lies behind the forms and textures –the marks of time and experience written into everything from fossils and rock formations to plants and trees. \nMy drawings and sculptures are partners in crime and dancing partners. Drawing involves investigative mark-making and sculpture is a form of physical thinking. The combination is a material proposition that invites you to look at the world in a completely different way\, to escape words and communicate in a physical way. \nRather than working realistically\, I’d rather look beneath the surface to observe raw energy and a struggle. The forces of growth and decay\, pressure\, time\, and adverse human influences work their way into the tension between 2D and 3D. I don’t want to imitate nature\, I would rather interrogate it. – Iain Machell 2026 \nArtist Talk – Sat\, Sept 26\, 1-2pm

SUMMARY:Film Screening - Seven Sentinels: Lighthouses of the Hudson River
DESCRIPTION:Of the dozens of lighthouses and warning lights that once dotted the Hudson River\, only seven remain. This iconic American river was a transportation super highway long before automobiles were invented\, and enabled the rise of New York City and westward expansion into the interior of this country. Throughout almost two centuries of America’s explosive growth\, these lighthouses kept watch\, guarding the safety of the Hudson’s waterborne traffic. \nCommissioned and produced by HRMM\, and directed\, filmed and edited by Jeff Mertz of Moonbow Imaging\, “Seven Sentinels” explores the history of the Hudson River’s seven remaining lighthouses and the keepers that lived in them\, as told by the people interpreting and caring for the structures today.\n\nThe Hudson River Maritime Museum’s concept for this film grew out of decades of Hudson River lighthouse interpretation\, including research\, exhibits\, articles\, short films and presentations. The film places the lighthouses in historic context\, tells the fascinating stories of the buildings themselves and their keepers\, and outlines how these seven have survived to the present day\, and how to preserve them for generations to come.
