Beautiful bread returns to the windows of 101
Broadway in Kingston’s Rondout. Formerly the site of Reher’s Bakery, the transformed Reher
Center will unveil a new exhibition that celebrates multicultural bread and wisdom.
Featuring mouthwatering visuals by food photographer Aaron Rezny, visitors and passersby can
learn about distinct breads and the cultures they represent. From Filipino Ensaymada and
Guatemalan Pan Dulce to Rondout Rolls and Traditional Challah – there are delectable offerings
for all.
The exhibition will be free and visible to all passing through Broadway.
“Braiding Breads & Traditions honors our mission as well as the Reher Family legacy,” said
Sarah Litvin, Executive Director of the Reher Center. “By showcasing the material and symbolic
sustenance of bread, we invite visitors to reflect on their cultural food traditions. Bringing
together these unique personal experiences, we can better understand our community as a
whole.”
Braiding Bread & Traditions is funded in part by a Humanities New York SHARP Grant with
support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the federal American Rescue
Plan Act. The exhibit is sponsored by former Congregation Ahavath Israel.
